A Beautiful Kind of Wild: Emily & Matthew’s Wedding at The Manor | Butterfly Kisses Photography
An unforgettable garden-inspired celebration of love, laughter, family, and a little tequila in King City, Ontario.

Some love stories begin with a grand romantic gesture. Others begin quietly, waiting for the right moment to unfold.
For Emily and Matthew, their story began long before either of them realized it.
They attended the same high school, shared mutual friends, and crossed paths countless times. Yet somehow, they never really got to know each other. In fact, Emily’s maid of honour still laughs at the thought of the two of them ending up together.
But sometimes, love has its own sense of timing.
And in their case, all it took was a softball team, a few pitchers of beer, and a little tequila.
From High School Hallways to Happily Ever After
In 2018, Emily decided to expand her horizons and join a co-ed softball team. Fortunately, the team was considerably more enthusiastic about post-game beers and wings than winning championships.
Matthew happened to be on that same team.
Somewhere between innings, laughter, and evenings spent together, a friendship began to grow into something neither of them had expected.
Then came margaritas at Jack Astor’s.
And after that night, they simply never stopped spending time together.
There were bingo nights, rollerblading adventures, hiking trails, tacos, tequila, and countless little moments that gradually became the foundation of something extraordinary.
Eight years later, their life together had grown to include three homes, two beloved pets, eight vacations, and more cottage-road-trip sing-alongs than they could possibly count.
Their dog, Whiskey, and cat, Margarita, are perhaps the greatest indication that life with Emily and Matthew is anything but ordinary.
Emily is the dreamer. The spontaneous one. The woman who dreams up new hobbies, plans unexpected adventures, and occasionally brings home an orange, fluffy kitten without consulting her future husband.
Matthew is her calm.
He is the one who carries the heavy boxes, builds the furniture, embraces the spontaneous plans, and somehow manages to smile through every wonderful bit of chaos.
Where Emily brings the adventure, Matthew brings the grounding.
And together, they have created a love that feels beautifully effortless.

A Proposal Among the Sloths in Costa Rica
After eight years together, Matthew knew it was time to ask Emily to marry him.
During a trip to Costa Rica in November 2025, he suggested they spend a romantic day exploring together and invited Emily to choose an excursion.
Perhaps he imagined a sunset cruise or a breathtaking waterfall.
Emily, however, had other plans.
A five-hour jungle adventure in search of sloths.
Dressed in hiking boots, baggy denim shorts, and a T-shirt that proudly declared “Save Water Drink Tequila,” Emily was completely unaware that one of the most important moments of her life was about to happen.
As their adventure came to an end, Matthew pretended to spot something interesting in the distance and encouraged Emily to look through a telescope.
When she turned around, he was down on one knee.
It was unexpected, wonderfully imperfect, and entirely them.
And really, could there have been a more fitting beginning to their next chapter?

A Garden-Inspired Wedding at The Manor in King City
On August 28, 2026, Emily and Matthew gathered approximately 200 of their favourite people at The Manor in King City, Ontario, for a celebration that was as vibrant and full of personality as their love story.
Set against the beautiful grounds and sweeping golf course views, their wedding in Elizabeth Hall brought together romantic elegance and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Their vision was garden-inspired, colourful, and sophisticated without ever feeling overly formal.
Fuchsia, magenta, lilac, lavender, and soft orange florals mingled with lush greenery, creating a romantic palette that felt fresh, joyful, and full of life.
Every detail reflected the couple’s desire to create something meaningful, beautiful, and, most importantly, authentically theirs.
From the moment they first visited The Manor, Emily and Matthew had felt a connection to the venue. It wasn’t simply the beautiful setting that won them over, but the warmth and welcome they experienced.
They could immediately imagine celebrating there, surrounded by everyone they loved.
And on their wedding day, that vision became a reality.

A First Look, Bare Feet, and Champagne in the Forest
Some of the most beautiful wedding photographs are created when couples simply allow themselves to be who they are.
For Emily and Matthew, that meant doing things a little differently.
They chose to share a first look before their ceremony, giving themselves the gift of time together without the rush of a traditional wedding timeline.
And what followed was one of those wonderfully spontaneous moments that photographers absolutely love.
Emily, barefoot and completely carefree, running through the forest with Matthew, champagne in hand, laughing and soaking in the excitement of the day.
No stiff poses. No pressure to perform.
Just two people, completely in love, enjoying every second of being together.
There was something so beautiful about watching Emily move through the day with that infectious energy of hers.
She has a spirit that cannot be contained. Warm, adventurous, expressive, and so incredibly full of heart, she has a way of making everyone around her feel as though they’ve known her forever.
And Matthew?
He is the steady presence beside her, smiling, laughing, and letting her be exactly who she is.
As wedding photographers, these are the moments we live for. The genuine laughter, the unexpected movement, the little glances, and the personalities that make every love story different.
Their portraits were not simply about creating beautiful photographs.
They were about capturing Emily and Matthew.

A Ceremony Filled With Love, Music, and Meaning
While Emily and Matthew’s wedding was filled with laughter and celebration, it also carried moments of extraordinary tenderness.
For Emily, the journey to her wedding day was deeply emotional.
Having lost her father in 2005 and her mother just months before the wedding, in March 2026, she approached this milestone with both immense happiness and the ache of wishing they could be there to share it.
There were conversations she wished she could have had, moments she wished she could have shared, and memories she wished they could have made together.
During the ceremony, roses were placed on a reserved chair in honour of her parents.
A simple, deeply meaningful tribute that quietly acknowledged their place in her heart and in the story of her wedding day.
As Emily walked down the aisle to a beautiful violin rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, performed by Liam Calhoun, the ceremony carried a sense of love that extended far beyond those physically present.
Later, the violinist played Justin Bieber’s One Less Lonely Girl as the couple signed their marriage documents, adding a playful and personal touch.
It was the perfect reflection of their relationship.
Emotion and laughter.
Tenderness and joy.
And a love that made room for all of it.
A Dance That Became Something Extraordinary
There are moments at weddings that stay with you long after the music has stopped.
For Emily, one of those moments came during what would traditionally have been her father-daughter dance.
With her father unable to be there, her uncles stepped forward.
One by one, they each shared a turn dancing with her, surrounding her with the kind of love that words could never fully express.
It was a beautiful reminder that although some of the people we love most may no longer be beside us, the love they gave us continues through the people who remain.
In those moments, Emily was not alone.
She was held by family, by memories, and by the people who wanted to make sure she experienced every bit of the happiness she deserved.
It was tender, emotional, and profoundly beautiful.
And it was an honour to photograph.
The Maple Leafs, Margaritas, and a Celebration Like No Other
Of course, anyone who knows Emily and Matthew knows that a wedding celebrating their relationship could never be entirely traditional.
Matthew’s love of sports made its grand appearance when the newlyweds entered their reception to the unmistakable sound of the Toronto Maple Leafs goal horn.
A perfectly hilarious and wonderfully personal entrance.
Their beloved pets were part of the celebration too.
Whiskey, their dog, had already enjoyed his own special moment earlier in the day, dressed in an adorable little wedding suit for photographs at home.
And although Margarita the cat may not have attended in person, both pets were honoured with signature cocktails bearing their names.
As the evening unfolded, the elegant garden-inspired celebration transformed into the kind of party Emily and Matthew had always imagined.
The music played, the dance floor filled, and the energy only grew.
Then came the beer pong, late-night tacos, and tequila shots.
Because for these two, a wedding wasn’t about following a particular formula.
It was about bringing everyone they loved together and giving them a night they would never forget.
And that is exactly what they did.

A Love That Makes Room for Every Adventure
What makes Emily and Matthew’s relationship so special isn’t simply how much fun they have together.
It’s the way they embrace each other’s differences.
Emily is full of ideas, energy, compassion, and an almost limitless enthusiasm for life.
Matthew is patient, kind, grounded, and always ready to support whatever adventure she dreams up next.
He makes her laugh.
She makes him see the world a little differently.
And together, they make the ordinary feel extraordinary.
Even in the months leading up to their wedding, some of their favourite memories weren’t found in elaborate celebrations or grand plans.
They were made dancing together in their kitchen, practising their first dance late at night.
Just the two of them.
No audience.
No expectations.
Simply enjoying the life they were building together.
And perhaps that is the most beautiful part of their story.
Their wedding was a magnificent celebration, but the love worth celebrating was already there, woven into years of everyday moments.
